About The Dignity Index

Created by UNITE, The Dignity Index is an eight-point scale to help measure how we talk to each other when we disagree.

The Index is grounded in a few core beliefs:

  • Contempt causes division; dignity eases division.
  • When spotlighting dignity and contempt, we will choose to use more dignity and less contempt
  • By showing Americans how they can help ease divisions, they will jump on it.
